Florø, Norway

On Norway’s western coast, Florø sits among hundreds of islands, rocky skerries, and narrow waterways opening onto the Norwegian Sea. Arriving by ship reveals the town tucked low against the water, its wooded hills rising behind the waterfront and boats moving between the outer islands and open ocean.

Founded in 1860 during the height of Norway’s herring boom, Florø retains strong ties to the sea. Its working harbor and fishing heritage reflect generations of coastal life, while nearby Kinn Island is home to a Romanesque stone church dating to around 1150.

Florø sits at the threshold of land and open sea. Tiny islands dot the horizon, dramatic rock formations rise from the water, and the red-topped Stabben Lighthouse stands alone on a small islet offshore. It is a destination in which Norway’s wild coastal beauty feels truly tangible, making the approach by ship part of the experience itself.
