The Tower of London has been the setting for many great events during its thousand-year history as a royal palace and fortress, prison and place of execution, menagerie, and jewel house. Founded by William the Conqueror in the 1070s and enlarged and modified by successive sovereigns, today the Tower of London is one of the world's most famous and spectacular fortresses.
During a guided visit, see the famous Yeoman Waders (also known as a Beefeaters) who have been guarding the Tower of London since Tudor times and visit the White Tower which today houses a display from the Royal Armories collection. It includes the armor of Henry VIII and historic instruments of torture.
You’ll also see the Bloody Tower and Traitors’ Gate located beneath St. Thomas’s Tower. Traitors’ Gate provides access to the Tower from the River Thames and became known as Traitors’ Gate because of the number of prisoners accused of treason who passed through it – for many, the trip was their last.
Finally, marvel at the greatest working collection of crown jewels in the world – priceless symbols of the British monarchy. Included in the collection of 23,578 gemstones are some of the world’s largest and most historic diamonds, such as the Cullinan I and the Koh-i-Nûr.
Please note: This tour includes 2 hours of walking. The Tower of London is a historic building with difficult stairs and passageways. There are a large number of steps throughout the Tower with cobbles laid in some of the roads.
