From Holyhead, travel through the fertile rolling farmland of Anglesey. En route, you'll pass Llanfairpwllgwyngyllgogerychwyrndrobwllllantysiliogogogoch. While it appears that someone accidentally spilled a can of alphabet soup on a road sign, this is not the case; in fact, this is the village that boasts the longest place name in the UK. You'll also pause for photos at the beautiful Menai Suspension Bridge, built in 1810.
In the town of Beaumaris, you'll visit the medieval ruins of Beaumaris Castle. It was built in 1295 as part of Edward I's Iron Ring -- a series of castles designed to keep the Welsh in Wales. Beaumaris was a state-of-the-art fortress at the time, built using concentric fortifications that created 14 separate, major obstacles for any would-be attacker. The castle is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and boasts spectacular views over the Menai Strait that separates Anglesey from the mainland and the dramatic Snowdonia Mountains.
You will have approximately 45 minutes of time at your leisure in Beaumaris.
Arriving back in Holyhead, you'll return to the ship.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
