A short distance to the north of the town, on Husavik Cape, a 40 ft high, bright yellow lighthouse stands tall, 160 ft above sea level. Built in 1952, the lighthouse watches over the waters of Skjalfandi Bay, guiding the fishermen of Husavik safely back to harbour. Alongside the lighthouse, atop the same west-facing cliffs, the GeoSea Baths share the lighthouse’s stunningly picturesque vantage point.
The geothermal spring at Husavik Cape was discovered around the same time that the lighthouse was constructed. Whilst analysis of the water proved that its mineral content was too high to be used for heating the homes of Husavik, it was perfect for providing health benefits. Initially, locals erected an old cheese barrel in which to hold the water for bathing, but thankfully, times have moved on since those days.
In the fresh Icelandic air, you will immerse yourself in the warm, mineral-rich sea water of GeoSea’s infinity pool. Your view extends across Skjalfandi Bay towards the snow-capped mountain ranges of Víknafjoll and Kinnarfjoll to the west, whilst to the north is the Atlantic Ocean and the Arctic Circle. Views and warm waters that will soothe your body and mind.
Having enjoyed a blissful time relaxing in the pool, your coach will be waiting to take you on the short transfer back to your ship in Husavik.
Please note: Guests joining this tour must take their own swimsuit and a towel. There are separate changing facilities for men and women, with lockers in which to place your belongings. Participants are required to take a shower and wash thoroughly before entering the baths, for which soap, shampoo and conditioner are provided.
