Súðavík village, with its 200 or so inhabitants, is divided into two distinct parts. The Old Town was hit by an avalanche in 1995, destroying part of the village. The other part -- the New Town -- was built after the avalanche and lies just a few minutes away, nestled under the beautiful Kofri Mountain.
Leaving Ísafjörður, take in the fantastic view over one of Iceland's largest fjords -- Isafjardardjup -- as well as the majestic snow-capped, striated Snaefjallastrond mountain chain.
Visit the Arctic Fox Center -- a research center and museum all in one. This is your chance to learn some very interesting facts about the only mammal that is native to Iceland, and learn about the tenuous relationship between fox and man through the centuries.
You will listen to a live Icelandic music program performed by a local musician at Súðavík's beautiful and historic church. The church comes with its own story. Some would say it was stolen from its original site in Hesteyrarfjördur but, armed with the facts, you can decide for yourself whether it was actually stolen or merely borrowed.
A panoramic drive along inner-Alftafjordur allows you to take some pictures of the beautiful, rugged landscape.
Please note: It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf.
