Steep mountains tower above the villages of the Loen region, making them some of the most idyllic towns in western Norway. During the summer months, the nearby Briksdal Glacier is one of the most visited in the country.

Set out from the village center on a scenic drive through the valley, following the shorelines of Floen and Olden Lakes. Ahead of you, view the long white stretch of the Melkevoll Glacier.

The road ascends through woodlands to the Briksdal Inn at the end of the road, where you will disembark your coach. Hike for about 45 minutes through the lovely landscapes of this picturesque area. After crossing the river, climb the scenic switchback path to the top of a waterfall for fantastic view of this arm of the Jostedals Glacier. The first part of the trek is somewhat steep, but flattens out (the terrain remains uneven) as you reach the highlight of your tour -- the Briksdal Glacier itself. Spend a brief amount of time here taking in this natural wonderland.

Hike the same route back to the Briksdal Inn for a well-deserved snack of coffee and cake. You will have free time to browse in the gift shop before returning to Loen by coach.

Please note: Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. It is essential that you wear warm, layered clothing in order to fully enjoy and participate in this excursion. Outer layer should be waterproof and windproof. Bring gloves, a warm hat and a scarf. Troll cars run to within 500 yards of the glacier for those guests who are not fit enough to walk up (at your own expense). Minimum age is 6 years.
