From Le Palais, Belle Ile’s main city, board your coach and leave for a short sightseeing tour of the island.
Pass by the charming Sauzon, with its picturesque harbor over the entrance of a deep estuary, known for its colored facades. Take in the spectacular wild coast of Port Coton and admire its needles – pyramids of rocks that are worm shaped by the ocean. On stormy day, foam may fly about like cotton balls.
When you arrive at the famous Castel Clara, taste oysters with a glass of white wine. With the fresh sea air of Port Goulphar in your hair, it is one of the most delightful rocky coves on the island.
On the way back, see the Grand Phare (lighthouse) from the coach and pass Kervilahouen, a peaceful inland village where the impressionist painter Claude Monet painted the same stretch of nearly wild coast 36 times in all kinds of weather. Once you have reached back Le Palais, walk back to the pier.
