Known as the “Key to the Kingdom,” Stirling Castle controlled the main route between the Highlands and Lowlands for centuries and served as the royal residence of the Stuart monarchs.
Explore the beautifully restored 15th-century palace, birthplace of James II, and learn about its turbulent past—attacked or besieged at least 16 times and the backdrop to pivotal battles that shaped Scotland’s destiny. Please Note: This tour lasts approximately 4½ hours and includes walking over paved and cobbled surfaces with inclines and steps throughout the castle. A courtesy vehicle and ramps may be available to assist guests with limited mobility, subject to availability; wheelchair users must be accompanied. Some areas, such as the medieval kitchens and Elphinstone Tower, remain inaccessible. Guests should wear warm layers and comfortable shoes.
