County Cork is situated in the southwest of Ireland, and is the largest of all the Irish counties. This wonderful full-day tour will take you into West Cork to discover the hidden treasures of its coast, mountains, lakes and quaint towns. Rich farmlands and river valleys contrast with the wild sandstone hills of the west, and there is a magnificent coastline scooped and fretted by the Atlantic into great bays and secret coves, strewn with rocky headlands and long stretches soft golden sands.
The Irish Tourist Board has named Clonakilty West Cork's Heritage Town. The attractive traditional shopfronts feature hand-painted signs in English and Irish. The Post Office is housed in an old Presbyterian church, and the Town Council and Library in a converted Corn Mill, with the river flowing beneath. Narrow streets and lanes open into elegant squares. It is a town of tall spires, towers and historic buildings. Brewery buildings, mills and quayside warehouses tell of Clonakilty's busy trading and industrial past.
Tea, coffee and scones are served at a local hotel, after which you'll have some free time to browse in the shops of this pretty town.
Notes: There will be approximately 30 minutes of free time in Clonakilty. Any walking is at guests' discretion. Dress warmly in layers, bring a waterproof outer layer. Wear comfortable, non-skid shoes. Bring local currency, as many vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars.
