The new Munch Museum, which opened in 2021, contains 1,200 paintings and 4,500 drawings bequeathed to the city of Oslo by world-famous artist Edvard Munch. Study a cross-section of his paintings, etchings and lithographs.
Continue to Vigeland Sculpture Park. This sprawling park covers 80 acres and features around 200 bronze and granite sculptures. Over the course of thirty years, Norwegian sculptor Gustav Vigeland created, under a commission from the city of Oslo, his own unique world. The massive, centrally-placed monolith features 121 human bodies fighting their way upwards.
Oslo's Opera House was designed by the Norwegian firm Snøhetta, which also designed the Library of Alexandria in Egypt. The Opera House covers a total area of 414,000 square feet, and includes 1,100 rooms. It won the Culture Award at the World Architecture Festival in Barcelona in 2008 and, in 2009, won the Mies van der Rohe Award -- the European Union prize for contemporary architecture.
