A wonderful insight into how the rich and the poor lived and survived in Victorian England, this tour will take you to picture-postcard Lanhydrock House. Lanhydrock is set on 890 acres of private grounds above the River Fowey. It is a substantial 16th-century manor that was devastated by fire in 1881 and later rebuilt in lavish style. A magnificent plaster ceiling in the 17th-century Long Gallery depicts Old Testament scenes. The gallery survived the fire and is well worth viewing.
The highlight of this gorgeous manor house visit is most definitely is the glimpse you will have into the 'Upstairs/Downstairs' class differentiation of Victorian England. The kitchens are particularly fascinating -- complete with gadgets that were well ahead of their time 100 years ago. You will have a chance to visit approximately 50 rooms in this fascinating house.
Outside, the palatial gardens are a joy to behold -- English countryside at its absolute best with magnolias, rhododendrons and camellias.
Following your visit to Lanhydrock, it is just a short drive to Fowey, one of England's loveliest riverside villages. You will have some free time here to wander among the pretty streets and shop in the quaint craft stores.
