London is the place where past and present come alive among ground-breaking architecture, surrounded by a constantly evolving city.
Sit back for the journey into central London, passing some of the world's most famous landmarks on a panoramic drive. Watch for the fashionable embassy district of Belgravia and Knightsbridge, where the famous Harrods store is located. Travel down Regent Street and see Trafalgar Square, graced by Nelson's Column. You'll glimpse the National Art Gallery and pass Whitehall with its poignant war memorial. Your guide also points out Horse Guards Parade and Downing Street -- the official residence of the Prime Minister. Drive down the Mall to see Buckingham Palace -- the official London residence of Britain's sovereigns since 1837.
You will pause at Parliament Square to view the Houses of Parliament, Big Ben and Westminster Abbey. The latter is the world-famous resting place of Britain's monarchs and has been the setting for coronations and other great pageants since 1066. From the outside, marvel at the immense structure of this magnificent church with its vast flying buttresses.
Afterward, enjoy some free time at Covent Garden for shopping and lunch (at your own expense) before the return journey to Portsmouth.
Please note: Travel time to London is approximately 2.25 hours each way. The Mall is closed on Sundays. Lunch is not included. You will have time to purchase lunch at your own expense during the tour.
