A short drive brings you to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, where you will find the HMS Victory, the Mary Rose Museum, HMS Warrior 1860, the National Museum of the Royal Navy, Action Stations and a harbor tour. Spend about three hours at the Dockyard, choosing what you would like to see and do (subject to availability).
HMS Victory is the Royal Navy's most famous warship and the world's oldest commissioned ship. She is a proud memorial to Vice-Admiral Lord Horatio Nelson, Britain's greatest Naval hero. The Great Cabin is where the Battle of Trafalgar was planned and is the spot where Nelson died. The once-crowded decks are where more than 800 men lived, worked and fought.
HMS Warrior 1860 is afloat in Portsmouth Harbour. She is the world's first iron-hulled, armored warship powered by both steam and sail and the only surviving member of Queen Victoria's Black Battle Fleet. Her four vast decks offer a feel for what life was like as a Victorian sailor on a 19th-century warship.
The National Museum of the Royal Navy is one of the UK's leading maritime museums. See the only museum dedicated to the ships of the Royal Navy and the men and women who have served on them. See, touch, hear and even smell the history of the Royal Navy through a rich collection of artifacts and award-winning permanent exhibits.
The Mary Rose was raised from the seabed in 1982 in front of a worldwide television audience of 60 million people. In the museum, you will find an exceptional collection of thousands of personal, domestic and military objects, the skeleton of the ship's dog, Hatch, which has been painstakingly reconstructed, and a special reconstruction of how the ship's bosun would have looked at the time. Is this the man responsible for the ship's sinking? TV historian Dan Snow narrates a special introductory film. Enjoy the enhanced displays and interpretative guides throughout the ship.
Please note: Access for visitors is limited by physical restrictions such as steep steps and low doorways. The site is a working Naval Base; certain areas may present difficulties for visitors using a wheelchair, who have mobility limitations, or who are visually impaired.
