The charming seaside town of Rothesay was a hugely popular tourist resort in Victorian times. A gentle stroll around the town today will include some of the relics from this grand era, including the Winter Gardens. The pavilion here is now home to the local information center but once hosted some of the best-known Music Hall entertainers.
The Old Town of Rothesay is centered around the now-ruined Rothesay Castle. The latter dates to the 13th century and is unique in its unusual circular plan. Take time here to visit and learn about the history of the castle and its close links to the Stewart dynasty.
The Bute Museum, situated just behind Rothesay Castle, expounds on the Isle of Bute’s wider human and natural history.
From here, it’s just a leisurely stroll back to the ship. Guests wishing to stay in town to shop or explore independently are welcome to do so but must make their own way back to the ship.
