The Silfra fissure is located in the heart of Thingvellir National Park, near the site of the world's oldest parliament. It is one of Iceland's best-kept secrets and this amazing adventure takes you deep into an environment that most travelers can only dream of.
Silfra is the rift between the North American and European tectonic plates, and its crystal-clear water gives you a feeling of being weightless as you float down with the lazy current. Frequently rated as one of the world's top ten dive sites, the Silfra Fissure offers up to 300 feet of underwater visibility and is located atop of the rift between the European and American tectonic plates.
Gear up with a drysuit and snorkel and get into the water. You will pass through the Big Crack -- Silfra's narrowest section, where the continental plates are so close you can almost touch them.
The fissure then widens into Silfra Hall, where the color and clarity of the water are unmatched. Enter the Silfra Cathedral to 'fly' over the boulders and glacial silt of the deep. Your adventure ends in the limitless visibility of the Silfra Lagoon.
After 30-40 minutes of snorkeling, climb out and head back to the transportation.
Please note: Wear warm outdoor clothing and bring a towel (fleece sweater and pants recommended and a change of clothing). Warm wool socks are mandatory. Snorkel gear and drysuit provided. No prior knowledge of snorkeling is required. Participants must be able to swim, be comfortable in deep water and be willing to wear a tight and constricting drysuit. Minimum height is 4'11" (150 cm); maximum height is 6'6" (200 cm). Minimum weight is 99 lbs (45 kg); maximum weight is 265 lbs (120 kg). Pregnant women are not allowed to participate. Participants must be physically fit. Please realistically assess your fitness level prior to booking. Minimum age is 12 years; maximum age is 65 years. Guests age 60 years and older must request a copy of the medical waiver form from Seabourn Shore Excursion Reservations prior to boarding the ship. If a guest answers YES to any question on the form, he/she must bring a certificate of doctor's approval. Each guest must provide the on-board Destinations manager with height, weight and shoe size on cruise embarkation day. Participants must walk in full gear for up to 350 yards. Your head and hands are exposed to the 36° F (2° C) water through a semi-insulated material. Part of your face is not covered by the hood and comes in direct contact with the water. There is a slight current in Silfra; participants must be able to swim against it during the last part of the tour. 100% cancelation fee applies 7 days before the ship's call at Reykjavik.
