Embark on a thrilling helicopter ride, flying over one of the most active volcanic areas in Iceland. As you cross the Hellisheiði Plateau, you’ll see moss-covered lava fields stretching out to the horizon, interspersed with colorful basalt mountains, steaming hot springs and the very geothermal power plants that supply Reykjavik with its renewable energy.
You’ll land off the beaten track and away from the crowds in the Hengill geothermal area to witness the region’s raw energy firsthand. You’re close to hot springs and boiling mud pools here, and you might even see some sheep wandering about in the valley.
Please note: Your flight departs from Reykjavík’s domestic airport, located in the heart of the city. Participants must be able to walk unassisted up 5-10 steps into the aircraft. Boarding the helicopter may present difficulties for guests with mobility limitations. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Tour operates weather permitting. Views are weather permitting. The operator reserves the right to cancel or alter the tour in the event of unsuitable conditions. Guests weighing 265 lbs (120 kg) or more will be required to pay an additional surcharge over the published fare. The helicopter ride lasts approximately one hour.
