Jersey’s mild climate is quite suitable for the production of wine, especially sparkling wines. Begin the day with a picturesque motorcoach ride to the northern area of the island en route to La Mare Wine Estate. This elegant estate has 11 acres of vineyards and produces 40,000 bottles of wine per year. The fruits of its labors have achieved international recognition, winning three awards at the International Wines and Spirits Competition.
Upon arrival, you will meet your knowledgeable guide for a private tour of the estate. Visit the vineyards, the fragrant orchards, and the cognac-style distillery. There is also a chocolate production room, where you can see fine fudge and luxury chocolates being made by hand.
Utilizing its own seven acres of Jersey cider-apple orchards plus apples from over 80 other local growers, La Mare Wine Estate produces a "methode traditionelle" champagne-style cider called Pompette. This is a light, fruity beverage that’s very effervescent and pleasing to drink. More than 90% of La Mare’s Jersey cider is double distilled in new cognac-style copper pots then aged in French and American oak casks to produce the island’s famous VSOP Jersey Apple Brandy.
La Mare also produces a wonderful range of Genuine Jersey Apple Brandy Cream Liqueur. Your guide will be on hand to explain the methods of producing these wines, liqueurs and apple brandy and offer you a guided tasting so you can sample the local flavors for yourself!
Rounding off your visit with a visit to the restaurant for a mouth-watering 2-course lunch paired with wine.A stop in the gift shop at the conclusion of your day is an opportunity to purchase some of these fine products to enjoy when you return home.
Please note: Guests need to be 21 years or older to participate in wine tasting. Wear comfortable shoes, a wind and waterproof outer shell is recommended for any diverse weather conditions.
