Discover the local highlights and learn about the fascinating history of this picturesque town with an easy stroll around Siglufjörður. Siglufjordur was through most of Iceland’s history a remote settlement, with a strong tradition of shark fishing. People here were long at the mercy of the elements, on land and sea and life didn‘t change much as the centuries passed. In the 1900s, this all changed. Siglufjordur experienced massive growth and became one of Iceland’s most significant herring fishing towns. Let us recreate with you through stories and landscape interpretation, whilst also sharing the modern-day highlights and attractions of this charming town.
After the stroll it is time to head to Segull 67 Brewery, a small family-owned craft brewery located in town. The brew house is in an old fish factory. Segull means magnet in Icelandic and connects to the magnet needle (magnetic north) in the compass. The magnetic needle always turns north no matter where you are. 67 has long been a lucky number in the family, the owners great grandfather drove his truck with the number F67 and his grandfather sailed the seas with the boat number SI67.Segull 67 brew house is located within 300 meters from the port. Guests will learn about this small family-run brewery as they get to explore the brewery itself behind the scenes and taste their products.
