Enjoy a journey across dramatically beautiful lands and into a fascinating past with a visit to the Viking Museum, located on the island of Vestvagoy.
Venture across the scenic landscapes of Vestvagoy Island en route to the Viking Museum at Borg. Along the way, witness views of majestic mountain peaks and the large swaths of fertile land that served as the stage of Viking history. At the Viking Museum, you will survey an exhibition of artifacts discovered by archaeologists, as well as recreations of Viking homes. Immersed in the atmosphere of the Viking village, you will become engagingly acquainted with how the Vikings lived a thousand years ago.
The idea of the museum is to recreate the atmosphere in a Viking village with handicrafts, buildings and food typical for the area and era. A full scale reconstruction of the original longhouse which was found and excavated at Borg invites you to experience first-hand the daily life of the Viking Age. Smell the open fire, admire the handicrafts, embellishments and architecture and familiarize yourself with an important part of Lofoten’s cultural heritage.
Please note: It is recommended to dress in warm, layered clothing and wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour involves walking on uneven ground with gradual slopes. Comfort stop available at the Viking Museum.
