Explore the highlights of Trondheim on this comprehensive sightseeing tour, from Ringve Manor to Nidaros Cathedral. The third largest city in Norway, this charming city is full of fascinating history and rich cultural tapestry.
Leaving the City Center, you’ll make your way to Ringve Manor – a typical manor house in the Trondelag district. The Manor was originally the home of naval hero Admiral Tordenskjold, and it houses Norway’s only musical instrument museum. What began as a private collection of instruments was opened to public in 1952. The collection contains some 2,000 musical instruments from all over the world, and what makes this visit particularly interesting is the presentation and preservation of this collection. A musical student will guide your visit and play several of the instruments to give a fascinating demonstration of both the development of the instruments and their music.
Returning to the city, you will visit Nidaros Cathedral – Scandinavia’s largest medieval building. The construction of the cathedral started in 1070 AD and is built over the grave of St. Olav, making the cathedral an important destination for Christian pilgrims. The building has been destroyed several times by fire but has always been rebuilt. The oldest part of the cathedral dates back to the 12th century. The church is richly ornamented in stone and has magnificent stained-glass windows.
Before ending the tour, you will drive up to Sverresli viewpoint Kristiansten Festning for a last view of this historical and charming city.
Please note: It is recommended that guests dress in layered clothing and wear comfortable walking shoes. This tour covers approximately 300 meters with 1 km of optional walking. Comfort stops are available at Ringve Manor and Nidaros Cathedral.
