As a major university town, Trondheim has always embraced great ideas and big ideals. The city aims to become the country's bike capital, with 100 miles of bike lanes by 2025.
Gear up, hop on a bike, and take to the streets of wonderful Trondheim. You'll pedal past palaces, fortresses and cathedrals, and along its pretty Nidelva River path. Discover the former Workers' Quarter and, in the historical Bakklandet district (the Old Town), with its picturesque wooden houses, you may have the opportunity to try the world's first bicycle elevator -- the Trampe.
On your way back to the bike shop, cross the modern Solsiden district. This former shipyard-turned-hangout area is now dotted with restaurants and bars and is ever-popular with the locals.
Please note: The bike ride is around 2.5 hours (five miles). Terrain includes moderate hills and steep inclines. Participants must be in good physical condition and some cycling experience with gears is required. Dress warmly in layers; outer layer should be windproof and waterproof. Bring a backpack to stow any layers you shed. Bring sunglasses; wear biodegradable sunscreen. Bring bottled water. Helmets are provided and must be worn. Pregnant women are not allowed to participate. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Minimum height is 4'3" (130 cm). Minimum age is 16 years. Maximum weight is 275 lbs. Waiver must be signed and medical conditions disclosed.
