Travel by boat to the remote, yet serene Isle of Martin- a community owned island steeped in a rich past. Delve into the annals of history while immersing yourself in a vibrant protected marine area. Set sail from Ullapool on MV Patricia, a well-loved local boat, despite its few comforts.
Onshore, your guide helps you unravel the tales of ancient civilizations, pivotal events, and remarkable figures that have shaped the course of this remote Island. Take a stroll over the Island, experiencing amazing vistas of the Summer Isles towards the Hebridean Isles. Visit, the islands micro museum and ruins including crofts and abandoned street giving insight into what this community once looked like before being abandoned.
Indulge in refreshments of local produce before returning to Ullapool. The return cruise offers view of further points of interest- the stunning scenery of Beinn Ghobhlach and Ben More Coigach; the Rhue Lighthouse and the nearby crofting communities, a salmon farm, and the mouth of the Ullapool River which contains recovering salmon and sea trout populations.
Please note: It is a 45-minute boat transfer each way. Sturdy boots or welly boots and waterproof layers are recommended. Guests will be clambering through rock pools down to the low tide point. The total walking distance is approximately 1 ½ miles (2-3km). There is some slippery terrain and rocky shore to navigate with slight inclines on Island.
