Visby, surrounded by a massive, intact City Wall, is celebrated not only for its history but also its beautiful parks and gardens. Behind the wall, a charming medieval stone city awaits you.
Leave the coach at one of the towers and take a guided walk through the narrow lanes straight out of the Middle Ages.
You'll visit the impressive Cathedral of St Mary, both a place of worship and a cultural treasure. The construction of the cathedral began in the late 12th century, funded by the fees paid by German ships using the port of Visby. Since 1572 it has been the Diocesan church of Visby, and in 2003 it also became the cathedral abroad for the Church of Sweden.
Explore the Botanic Gardens with its broad variety of exotic trees, shrubs, flowerbeds and roses. Visby's mild winters allow such specimens as almond trees, magnolias and acacias to grow beside vivid displays of flowers.
Visit the local brewery where you will sample a great selection of beers brewed onsite. The Hop Shed Brew Pub was founded as a brewery in 2012 and quickly gathered a local following on Gotland. In order to grow, the brewery was relocated to Visby. In 2019, the team decided to build a Brew Pub on site to offer guests a complete experience. Enjoy an amazing selection of craft beers, to a brewery experience from the onsite brewery, and even a relaxing beer garden.
On your return, visit Galgberget, or Gallows Hill, whose grisly name speaks for itself.
Please note: Minimum age is 18 years. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour requires walking on cobblestones and other uneven surfaces. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations.
