Your destination today, the province of Pontevedra, lies to the south of Vigo.
A panoramic drive brings you to the beautiful medieval walled city of Tui, located on a hill next to the Portuguese border on the River Mino. Visit Tui's imposing cathedral, built in the 12th century and later converted into a battlement-studded fortress -- the logical response to the frequent invasions endured by the town. Its tower forms a magnificent balcony over the river and, from it, the city appears to be terraced out of the hill.
A tasting of locally-produced wines awaits you at the beautiful Parador (state-owned hotel), which is a reproduction of a rural Galician country house and is set among mountains and rivers.
Follow the border to El Rosal -- the part of the province where the majority of Ribeiro wine is made -- and continue to the coastal city of Bayona.
In Bayona, see the Castle of Montréal. This old fortress is now the site of a Parador, but retains its original outer walls complete with battlements and sentry walks, a clock tower and, of course, the prince's tower.
Relax over some delicious tapas and sample more of the fabulous wines of Galicia.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
