On this tour you will enjoy the beauty of the Southern Galicia.
Begin with a drive up Mount Castro or Mount La Guia, offering a terrific view over the Vigo Estuary. Located among the forest here are the hill-forts and ruins that constituted the early settlement of Penso Castle. The 17th-century Tower Castle is still standing. You will take in the view of the city, the river and your ship.
Continue to Bayona -- one of the most significant fishing villages on the Galician coastline. Visit the remains of the old walls dating from the 16th century, and view monuments that show the status of this village. These include the Romanesque church, which was built in the 13th century -- it was a collegiate church from 1482 to 1850 and boasts a marvelous Romanesque rose window up in the main façade.
You will also visit the Monterreal Palace, which now houses the state-owned Parador Baiona Hotel. The castle occupies the Monte Real Peninsula
Returning to the ship, and time permitting, you can walk through the oyster stalls on Stone Street to catch a glimpse of the seafood culture of Galicia (only applicable when the ship is docked at the cruise terminal). Otherwise, enjoy from the coach a spectacular view over the Cíes Islands -- a National Park of Spain -- with a coastline that makes the perfect home for thousands of mussels.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes.
