Discover the charms of the Old Town of St Malo -- once the home of some notorious corsairs, French privateers, and pirates.
Stroll with your guide along quaint, narrow streets that lead to the castle, the ramparts protecting the town, the house of Duchess Ann and the St Malo Cathedral. Your guide shares stories of some famous naval personalities -- Jacques Cartier, Duguay-Trouin and Surcouf, and the well-known romantic writer, Chateaubriand.
Enjoy free time to briefly explore on your own before re-grouping at the Asfeld Hotel. Visit this manor house once owned by privateer and merchant François-Auguste Magon de la Lande. He was one of St Malo's most powerful ship-owners during the heyday of the French East India Company. Built in 1725, the house is now a Historic Monument. Raise a glass of cider to the colorful history of St Malo before walking back to the pier.
Please note: Wear comfortable walking shoes. Participants must negotiate stairs and/or uneven surfaces.
