Enjoy a comfortable ride passing a variety of landscapes, including rich farmland, lush forests and mountain views as you approach the highlands of Naranjo -- an area famous for its quality coffee.
Espíritu Santo Coffee Plantation represents Costa Rica' most remarkable and pure coffee traditions and history. The farm is comprised of 640 acres of prime coffee plantation, where the secrets of a real cup of coffee are carefully brewed. A great team of tour guides will show you every stage of fine gourmet coffee cultivation. Your introduction begins with a nursery demonstration so you can observe the different stages of the coffee plant during its first year. The coffee is then dried under the sun, using the methods invented by Costa Rica's past generations -- thus producing a top-quality coffee.
During your visit to the plantation and processing plant, you will have the opportunity to see real workers fertilizing the soil, using the same organic solids produced during the cleaning and peeling process and sweeping the coffee, which still has its parchment, under the sun to make sure it dries evenly. Meanwhile, others take care of the final process of preparing and packing the coffee for export.
Visit an old house where you can experience how the Costa Ricans lived in the past. This is the perfect spot for your guide to explain how the coffee used to be brewed and why, 200 years later, the local people still use a handmade chorreador instead of an electric coffeemaker.
Enjoy a delicious Costa Rican lunch here.
In Sarchi's main square, take a memorable picture of the largest oxcart ever built. This scenic town is considered the home of Costa Rica's best oxcart craftsmanship and you'll visit the only remaining oxcart factory, whose machinery is powered by a water wheel. Browse in the souvenir shop before you return to the ship.
Please note: Travel time to Espíritu Santo is approximately 1.5 hours each way.
