Welcome to Guayaquil, Ecuador’s vibrant economic capital and largest city—affectionately known as the Perla del Pacífico (Pearl of the Pacific). This bustling metropolis is home to one of the most important ports on the Pacific coast and offers a dynamic blend of colonial charm, modern architecture, and tropical ambiance.
Begin your journey with a scenic 45-minute drive from the pier into the heart of Guayaquil. As you travel, your guide will share insights into the city’s history, culture, and economic significance.
Your first stop is Seminario Park, also known as Iguana Park for its famous residents—dozens of green iguanas lounging in the trees and strolling the grounds. Admire the equestrian statue of Simón Bolívar, South America’s liberator, and visit the Cathedral of Guayaquil, a stunning neo-Gothic church that anchors the park’s eastern edge.
Next, take a short walk to the Municipal Museum, housed in a historic building. Inside, explore a curated collection of archaeological artifacts, colonial-era art, and exhibits that trace Guayaquil’s evolution from a modest settlement to a major Pacific port. This immersive experience offers a deeper understanding of the city’s cultural identity and resilience.
Continue your exploration with a walk along the Malecon 2000, a beautifully revitalized riverside promenade that stretches along the Guayas River. Along the way, you’ll see the La Rotonda Monument, commemorating the historic meeting between Simón Bolívar and José de San Martín. The Moorish Clock Tower stands nearby, an ornate landmark with Middle Eastern architectural influences. The Civic Plaza and City Hall showcase grand sculptures and colonial-style buildings that reflect Guayaquil’s civic pride. You’ll also pass an antique Ecuadorian train and expansive playgrounds that add to the promenade’s charm.
Reboard your coach for a panoramic drive past Cerro Santa Ana, home to Las Peñas, Guayaquil’s oldest and most iconic neighborhood. Perched on the hillside, this area is known for its colorful colonial houses, cobblestone streets, and artistic vibe. It’s a favorite among photographers and history lovers alike.
Finally, relax on the return drive to the pier, reflecting on the rich tapestry of sights and stories that make Guayaquil a true gem of the Pacific.
