Buses depart ship's side and drive uphill to the Vailima Botanical Rainforest National Reserve which encompasses about 12 hectares which protects a variety of native species of flora. During this tour guests will hike up the trail that was made to transport Robert Louis Stevenson's body to his resting place on the top of Mt Vaea.
The hike to Robert Louis Stevenson tomb atop of Mt Vaea takes approximately 50minutes (for the fittest) weaving through dense tropical rainforest, passing a magnificent banyan tree on the way up. The spectacular views of Apia township and surrounding villages looking out to the horizon is an opportunity not to be missed.
Bottled water will be supplied to guests to carry with them and good footwear is recommended.
Following this, a beautiful coastal ride to the famous Piula Cave Pool for a dip to cool off from the walk. the pool sits on top of a cathedral within the compound of the Methodist Mission Theological College.
On return to town, guests are driven through Apia to the Mulinuu Penninsula for sightseeing before return to the ship.
