Depart the pier and travel to Eoseungsaengak, a parasitic volcanic cone within Hallasan National Park. Known for its relatively gentle trail of wooden stairs and gradual paths, Eoseungsaengak is considered one of the easiest hiking routes in the park. The hike to the summit takes approximately 30 minutes, where visitors can view a circular crater and enjoy scenic views of Hallasan’s surrounding landscape. Near the summit, remnants of Japanese military facilities from the final years of World War II can also be seen. The name “Eoseungsaengak” is said to originate from the meaning “a horse presented to the king,” referring to the area’s historical association with the breeding of excellent horses during the Joseon Dynasty.
Continue to Gwaneumsa Temple, located at the foothills of Hallasan at approximately 650 meters above sea level. Considered the center of Buddhism on Jeju Island, the temple oversees numerous temples across the region. Historical records indicate that a temple existed on this site during the Joseon Dynasty. Although it disappeared in the early 18th century, the temple was gradually rebuilt beginning in 1969 with the construction of Daeungjeon Hall. Additional buildings were later added, forming the temple complex seen today.
Please note: This tour includes 2.6 km (round trip) of moderately steep trekking trails, and numerous steps are involved. The tour order may vary. Proper shoes must be worn.
