This tour is tailor-made for those interested in culture, human interaction, history and sociology. It represents your chance to understand African history in a global context, as well as African art and culture just for the sheer fun of it.
Driving out of the port, we will pass by the monument of the second world war celebrating the Senegalese Soldier so called "Tirailleur Sénégalais Samba " and the French Soldier Dupont.
We will head to the "Le Musée des Civilisations Noires" (Museum of Black Civilizations), before visting the Village des Arts (Village of Arts) with the exhibition of the works of more than 100 Artists, each with his/her small gallery ... Feel free to interact with them, as you browse among their works.
After a visit of about 35/45 minutes, we will drive through the Almadies district, giving you an idea of the stark contrast between rich and very poor districts; photo stop at the Mamelles lighthouse, the Mosque of divinity ( the Deity Mosque) and visit the Monument of African Renaissance.
Driving along the West Corniche, you will explore the Decasa Sand Paintings Gallery, where you can watch the artists at work using hundreds of different naturally-colored sands from all over Africa. This is quite impressive, as brightly creative as it is quietly inspiring.
Following along the West Corniche, we will pass the University Cheikh Anta Diop, the Soumbedioune Handicraft Village and the Cathedral of African Memories ... The latter incorporates Sudano-Sahelian Architecture, and finally the IFAN Museum.
Enjoy a Senegalese lunch at "Le Centre Culturel Français" (French Cultural Center), interesting to visit because of colonization history between France and West Africa.
After lunch, we will visit the Galerie Antena, with its collection of Antique and Modern African Art in the form of masks, wood carvings and sculpture, before heading back to the ship.
