Discover the local sights of Kangaroo Island including Kingscote, American River and Pennington Bay. Depart the pier by motorcoach and head to Kingscote. The largest township on Kangaroo Island, Kingscote is home to about 1,800 islanders and enjoys a beautiful location on Nepean Bay. You'll have about 30 minutes of free time to wander along the beach, browse in the local shops for souvenirs, or purchase a quick cup of coffee (at your own expense).
Re-board your coach and pass Reeves Point – site of the first official European settlement in South Australia.
Next, discover American River which was first visited by Europeans in 1802 when Matthew Flinders landed to survey this part of Kangaroo Island. In 1803, a group of American sealers camped for four months in the area. They arrived on the brig Union and built their own 35 ton schooner Independence from local timber. The town takes its name from this time.
Your final stop is the amazing Pennington Bay, located near the friendly fishing village of American River. This impressive stretch of coastline is a favorite among local surfers and is also a popular spot for fishing. In the right weather conditions, giant waves crash against the shore, further eroding the towering cliffs above.
