Join your Aboriginal guide on a journey through Nurungaui to explore the storyline of the Ngarrindjeri people. These are a proud Aboriginal community with a rich heritage deeply intertwined with the waterways, wetlands, and landscapes of the Murray River region. Today, they continue to celebrate and preserve their traditions, knowledge, and connection to the land.
Set out with your local indigenous guide, and you may be lucky enough to also meet Mark Koolmatrie -- a Ngarrindjeri Elder who has been sharing Aboriginal knowledge with visitors to South Australia for more than 40 years.
On this walk-and-talk journey, you will discover native bush foods and medicines. Hear about the local Aboriginal tribe and their resilience from the Kalowinyeri (Creation), including Ngarrindjeri mythology to the present day and beyond.
Continue along and stop at a reflection seat established to pay respects to Ngarrindjeri women. As you experience a day in the life of the Aboriginal people, you will understand how their values shape the landscape and vice versa.
