Visiting Sakurajima Island and Sengan-en Garden in Kagoshima is a harmonious blend of natural beauty and historical elegance. Witness the awe-inspiring Sakurajima volcano, then stroll through the meticulously landscaped Sengan-en Garden, offering a captivating juxtaposition of dynamic volcanic landscapes and serene traditional Japanese aesthetics.
Board a coach at Kagoshima Pier for the drive to the Kagoshima ferry terminal. From here, it’s a 15-minute ferry ride to Sakurajima Island. From an observation point, you will view Mt. Sakurajima — a moderately active volcano that rises magnificently above Kinko Bay. Mt. Sakurajima faces Kagoshima and constantly emits smoke, sometimes to a height of several thousand feet. This symbol of Kagoshima is the site of repeated eruptions throughout history.
Take the ferry back to Kagoshima, where you will visit Sengan-en Garden — a beautiful Japanese landscape with Sakurajima and Kinko Bay harmoniously forming its beautiful backdrop.
Please Note:
There is an estimated 1 hrs walking involved in this tour and approximately 100 steps at the Sakurajima Observatory. The tour is considered unsuitable for passengers with mobility difficulties. The visit to Senganen Garden includes walking over uneven, bare and graveled grounds. Some parts of Senganen Garden are not wheelchair accessible. We suggest passengers carry local currency for purchases. Tour order may vary. For Mt Sakurajima, volcanic activity is stable these days. The view of Sakurajima is subject to weather conditions. The ferry to Sakurajima Island is a public service and not exclusive to the Seabourn guests.
