Head to Takachiho — Miyazaki's scenic wonder. On the way to Takachiho, your tour guide will explain the mythology of the area before heading off to enjoy a Japanese style lunch.
You'll watch a special Kagura dance performance at the Takachiho Shrine. The shrine was founded approximately 1,900 years ago during the reign of Emperor Suinin and serves as the head shrine for the eighty-eight shrines of Takachiho — the deity of agriculture, exorcism, and matchmaking. Takachiho Kagura is usually an evening performance but, today, it's your privilege to enjoy these authentic dances, designated as an Important Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Japan.
Please note: Travel time is approximately 1¼ hours each way. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour does not include a walk through Takachiho Gorge. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. Bring local currency or credit cards, as most vendors do not accept US dollars. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). Unfamiliar accents can be challenging; feel free to ask your guide to repeat or elaborate on information, and to speak more slowly so you can fully comprehend and converse.
