Head towards the east coast of Tahiti, where your first stop will be at Point Venus. This is the historic landing site for the European discoverers and evangelists that came to the Society Islands in the 1700s. It boasts the only lighthouse on the island, which was built in 1867.
Continue south, passing steep coastline, until you reach the Gauguin Restaurant, where you'll stop for a refreshment.
At the Spring Garden of Vaipahi, rare species of precious wood and tropical flowers grow in luxuriant splendor.
Enjoy a short photo stop at Maraa Fern Grotto Caves, visited by Captain Cook in 1769 and by Paul Gaugin. The caves starred in Gaugin's fictional novel Noa Noa.
The drive back to the pier takes you along the west coast, completing your full island drive around Tahiti-Nui.
