Board a covered motorized catamaran for an exciting lagoon cruise across the turquoise waters surrounding Raiatea. This majestic island was once called Havaiiki by its original Polynesian settlers. Enjoy spectacular views of Tapioi Mountain and the mythical Temehani plateau surrounded by lush, deep green valleys.
You will pause at Marae Taputapuatea -- a UNESCO World Heritage Site -- to explore these sacred grounds and learn of ceremonies and worship practices that were part of the early Polynesian social fabric. Your local guides share fascinating stories and legends of yesteryear to interpret the history of its people and the island's fauna.
On the return route, watch for Faaroa Bay, where the original sailing canoes departed from to discover distant lands, including New Zealand, Hawaii and Easter Island.

Wear sturdy non-skid walking shoes. Shade is limited; to avoid sunburn, wear light, long clothing suitable for use as a cover-up. Bring a hat and sunglasses; wear biodegradable/reef-safe sunscreen. Terrain includes steep inclines, steps, improved and unimproved trails, grass, gravel and uneven surfaces. The boat environment will be wet; bring personal items and devices at your own discretion.
