Head to a local sake brewery with a long-standing history. A guided tour of the facility encourages you to learn about the brewery's heritage and see firsthand the meticulous processes involved in crafting high-quality rice wine.
Next up, enjoy a hands-on onigiri-making experience, learning how to shape and prepare Japanese rice balls using fresh, local ingredients and traditional techniques. Afterward, you'll pair your ongiri with a taste of sake.
Enjoy lunch; then, visit the Miho Shrine, built in the 16th century and surrounded by the Shimane Peninsula's dense forest. The shrine is dedicated to the god of fishermen and the goddess of abundant harvest. During a short prayer ceremony, you'll receive a traditional blessing.
Finally, stroll around the exterior of the Mihonoseki Lighthouse before returning to Sakaiminato. Built in 1898, it has been selected as one of the World's 100 Historic Lighthouses.
