This insightful tour with a kataribe (storyteller) offers an insider's look at the earthquake of 2011 and Miyagi Prefecture's destruction and subsequent recovery efforts.
From the pier, you'll transfer to Ishinomaki and the Memorial Hall dedicated to those who lost their lives during the earthquake. Meet former residents of the area and set out on a walk through the city.
A local restaurant focused on delicious Japanese style lunch accompanied by sake (rice wine) from a local brewery.
A walk around the downtown with an AR (Augmented Reality) device allows you to view the area's past and present landscape. You will be amazed at the changes wrought by the earthquake and the rebuild.
Return to the pier enlightened and charmed by Ishinomaki.
Please note:
Wear comfortable walking shoes. Tour requires more than 2.5 hours of walking. Not advisable for guests using a wheelchair or for those with mobility limitations. You must remove your shoes at one or more location(s). AR devices are shared among several people. Tour sequence may vary. Bring local currency, as some vendors do not accept credit cards or US dollars. Interacting with local people may present some language challenges; an English-speaking guide will be on hand to assist.
