The village of Triolet is home to Mauritius’ largest Hindu temple built in 1819 in honor of the gods Shiva, Krishna, Vishnu, Muruga, Brahma and Ganesh. Take a short visit with a guide and learn about the honored gods. Next, you will go on a walking tour of the Labourdonnais village. Visit the village and taste local products.
The Château de Labourdonnais was built in 1858 and, soon afterwards, a tropical orchard was planted on the grounds of the estate. A few centenary mango trees are still alive and well here. A sugar factory was also built in the village, and sugar production remained the estate’s primary economic activity. When the factory was demolished in 1960, a major agricultural diversification program took place with the creation of a modern 120-acre orchard, planted with a wide variety of tasty tropical fruits such as mangos, lychees, pineapples, guavas, bananas, passionfruit, kumquat, grapefruit, and other citrus. The annual fruit production is approximately 1,000 tons and enables the manufacture of various naturally flavored fruit by-products such as fruit bars, jams, marmalades, and fresh fruit juice. Be prepared to sample a few of these items.
Next, lunch will be served here be served at the restaurant on site.
