Those who dare to venture off the beaten track often find obscure treasures which are hidden to those that follow the common route. Departing from Akureyri in a mighty Super Jeep, you will head towards the Godafoss Waterfall, also known as ‘Waterfall of the Gods’ and is one of Iceland’s most beautiful and mighty falls.
Continue on to the Lake Myvatn area to experience some off road driving. Your off road adventure heads to Ludentsborgir, the old crater row where you will explore the craters and enjoy great views over Myvatn and the surrounding area.
Stop for lunch at a local restaurant before continuing on with your adventure traveling through remote heaths and valleys to Skjalfandafljot -- a white glacial river originating from Vatnajokull glacier, the largest ice cap in Iceland. It runs across the highlands, carving out magnificent riverbeds along its way. Situated at the edge of the Highlands, you will find the breathtaking Aldeyjarfoss waterfall, where white water cascades from a high cliff into a ravine lined with black basalt columns.
Finally, drive down the valley through Vaglaskogur forest on route back to your ship.
Please note: Weather in Iceland is very unpredictable and views are weather permitting. It is recommended to wear sturdy, non-skid footwear and warm, waterproof outerwear. Lake Myvatn is known for its tiny midget flies during the summers. They are harmless, but can be bothersome. It is recommended to bring a face net while visiting Lake Myvatn area.
