Join the Expedition team in the Zodiacs for a visit to Jan Mayen. If permission is granted by the Norwegian military personnel, we will com ashore at the southern end of Jan Mayen for some short exploratory walks. Exploring this volcanic island on foot allows the Expedition team to interpret the sparse and stunted flora for you and to discuss the desolate, beautiful, mountainous topography of this Arctic outpost.
If permission to land is not granted, a wildlife-focused Zodiac cruise along the rugged coastline, with views of Jan Mayen's incredible volcanic cone, will be substituted if permission to land is not granted.
Please note: Included Expeditions cannot be booked in advance. The ship's Expedition team will communicate finalized content and departure information. Dress warmly in layers with a windproof and waterproof outer layer; bring a warm hat, gloves and a scarf. Life jackets are provided and must be worn. Wildlife sightings are likely but are not guaranteed.
