Start your adventure by disembarking your ship at sunrise, breathing in the fresh morning air as you transfer to the iconic Lion’s Head. As you ascend Kloof Nek, marvel at the striking silhouette of Lion’s Head, renowned for its unique resemblance to a lion’s backside. Standing proudly at 669 meters above sea level, this destination is a must-visit for hiking enthusiasts with a decent fitness level and a sense of adventure, as you'll encounter climbing challenges along the way.
The trail begins on a well-maintained jeep track before transitioning into a more rugged rocky path, complete with stone steps and steep sections that will test your determination. Don’t fret, as you’ll find helpful staples, chains, and ladders to aid your climb, though you can opt to take a gentler route around them if you prefer.
As you ascend, immerse yourself in the beauty of Cape Town's fynbos and distinctive rock formations—look out for the impressive granite boulders at lower elevations, which give way to sandstone cliffs higher up.
Upon reaching the summit, prepare to be awestruck by the breathtaking 360-degree vistas encompassing the sparkling city bowl, the renowned Table Mountain, the historical Robben Island, and the pristine beaches of Clifton. Take a moment to bask in the serenity, and indulge in a delightful “hiking” breakfast elegantly arranged by your porters, all while soaking in the crisp air and extraordinary views.
After savoring this memorable experience, enjoy a leisurely descent back, where your awaiting vehicle will be ready to transfer you back to your ship.
This activity entails a good amount of walking on uneven terrain and is thus not suitable for individuals with walking limitations. Additionally, it should be noted that the incline, stairs, and ladders may prove challenging for inexperienced hikers. Guests should bring sun protection. It is recommended that guests dress in casual clothing and wear flat, comfortable walking shoes.
