Corinto, Nicaragua

Corinto, named for the Greek city of Corinth, is a less than epic town. Still, it offers a charming entrée to Nicaragua. Just inland looms the massive stratovolcano San Cristóbal, the country’s highest at over 5,700 feet. Still (gently) active, it is surrounded by a bevy of smaller, less busy cones. Near Corinto is Chichigalpa, the home of an historic sugar mill and the distillery for Flor de Caña rum, considered by many as one of the world’s finest.
