Cruising Golfo Dulce

Golfo Dulce is a body of water in the southern Puntarenas province of Cost Rica, set off from the Pacific Ocean by the Osa Peninsula. The northeast part of the gulf is part of the 35,000-acre Peidras Blanca National Park, protecting the tropical rain forest which is among the world’s most endangered ecosystems. The gulf itself is considered a tropical fjord, with an average annual temperature of 86 degrees Fahrenheit and average annual rainfall of five to six meters. The area supports populations of about 50% of Costa Rica’s flora and fauna species. Several species of whales seasonally populate the gulf, which is a splendid place for breeding and birthing due to an average water temperature of nearly 87 degrees F.
