Esperance, Australia

Located on the Southern Ocean coast in Western Australia, Esperance has a long history as an agricultural center. There are five national parks in the area, and the beaches are renowned for their dazzling white sands and dramatic granite outcrops and boulders that surround them. The Great Ocean Drive offers a good survey of the blue seas, dotted with granite islands and fringed with shining beaches. None of the islands are inhabited, but day boats take people to the Woody Island Nature Preserve for a look. For something completely different, check out the Pink Lake, a saltwater lake tinted by red algae that thrive in the waters.
