Puget Sound

Puget Sound is a large estuarine sound running for about a hundred miles along the northwestern Pacific coast of the United States in the state of Washington. There are one major and two minor connections to the Pacific Ocean, the Strait of Juan de Fuca being the largest and Deception Pass and Swinomish Channel being the minor ones. The sound is enfolded by several mountain ranges clearly visible from sea level, including the Olympic Range to the west and the Cascade Range to the east, as well as the stratovolcanos Mt. Baker in the Cascade Range and Mt. Rainier to the south. The Puget Sound borders several substantial cities including Seattle, Tacoma, Everett, and Olympia, Washington.
