Scenic cruising Stromboli

Stromboli is a small island in the Aeolian Archipelago, located in the Tyrrhenian Sea off the northern coast of Sicily. It is one of three active volcanoes in Italy. The cone is about 3,000 feet high, and there are three active craters near the summit. About 500 people live on Stromboli in three small villages near the base. The craters frequently produce energy bursts of smoke and molten lava, as well as rocks which tumble down the slopes. At night the glow from eruptions is clearly visible. The volcano has been nearly continuously active for at least 2,000 years.
