Support the locals on this sustainable walking tour of Vagur. Your local guide will take you to the sites of this small town with only 1400 inhabitants. You will visit Vágs kirkja ( church ) which is one of the most beautiful and iconic churches in the Faroe Islands. Built in 1939. It stands proudly with its striking white exterior and red roof, a perfect example of unique Faroese church architecture. You will see the traditional Faroese wooden boats, some are 150 years old, which were essential for survival on the islands and also how these have now become more modern and used in our national sport of rowing. If the smack “Johanna TG 326” is in port we will have a look at this beautiful wooden ship built in 1884 for the fishing industry. We will also visit the memorial tribute for fishermen lost at sea and here we will also see the stone paved “Fiskastykki” which was used for drying fish. Before heading back to the ship we will enjoy a local beer from the town’s microbrewery “Biskupskeldan” or you can choose a coffee with some home baked cake.
Please note: Wear sturdy walking shoes and waterproof layers. The total distance covered is approximately 1 ½ miles (2,5 km). The walking will be slow with several stops of standing. Please be sure to book your included experience in advance as space may be limited on your specific choice.
