Depart by coach for a one-hour drive to reach the territory of Sulcis Iglesiente and the wild Southwestern coastline of Sardinia; take a brief look to the long beaches of Fontanamare and to the impervious and steep coast of Nebida as you go by. This region is famous for its minerals and its caves, resources that made Sardinia a rich region in the past.
Enjoy a short refreshment stop at "906 OPERAIO", a bar nestled in a panoramic walking path overlooking the sea. Your tour will then continue to the gallery of Porto Flavia where you will enter the cave. In the past, it had a unique role due to its position on the sea and was used to load the ships with the carbon processed from the caves of the area. The carbon activity of Porto Flavia ended after World War II, when mining lost its importance to the economy of the island. These days its highlight lie in the small terrace overlooking the sea and with the beautiful look at "Pan di Zucchero", a majestic sea stack close to the cave. You will have approximately one hour to visit here and will then exit the gallery and head to "Sa Rocca", a local farm where guests will enjoy a typical Sardinian lunch, with some of the most delicious dishes prepared by the owners. After some free time to relax in the natural surrounding of the farm, board your coach to return to Cagliari.
Please note: Guests will encounter uneven and rough terrain inside the cave. Wear comfortable walking shoes. Not recommended for guests suffering claustrophobia. A mandatory safety helmet will be provided for the cave visit.
